Cabell-Huntington Health Department to Host Community Threat Preparedness Forum
HUNTINGTON, WV — The Cabell-Huntington Health Department will host a Community Threat Preparedness Forum on Thursday, May 28, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Marie Redd Senior Center, 1750 9th Avenue, Huntington. The event is free and open to the public.
The forum will feature a panel of local emergency response leaders, including representatives from the Huntington Police Department, Huntington Fire Department, Cabell County Emergency Medical Services, Cabell County 911/Emergency Services, Cabell County Sheriff’s Department, and the National Weather Service. Panelists will share practical strategies and real-world guidance to help residents better prepare for emergencies and potential threats affecting the community.
The program will also include an interactive question-and-answer session, providing attendees the opportunity to engage directly with first responders and gain valuable insight on how to protect themselves, their families, and their neighborhoods.
“Preparedness starts at the community level,” said Leland Steele, Director of Communications and Threat Preparedness for the Cabell-Huntington Health Department. “This forum will bring together trusted local experts to provide clear, practical guidance that residents can use right away. When individuals are informed and prepared, our entire community becomes stronger and more resilient.”
Threat preparedness is one of the five mandated services local health departments provide through the West Virginia Department of Health. Events like this forum play a vital role in ensuring residents have the knowledge, confidence, and resources needed to respond effectively during emergencies.
