Tobacco is West Virginia’s number one preventable killer.
Exposure to secondhand smoke is a common and significant hazard in West Virginia. In fact breathing secondhand smoke has been shown to cause or contribute to many serious health conditions. Cabell-Huntington Health Department houses a Regional Tobacco Prevention Coalition Coordinator who is primarily responsible for tobacco prevention education in six counties including Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, and Wayne. The Coalition meets every fourth Monday at noon at Cabell-Huntington Health Department.
Cabell-Huntington Health Department facilitates the American Lung Association Freedom From Smoking clinic. These clinics are eight weeks and taught at the Cabell-Huntington Health Department. In addition to this clinic, cessation services are accessed through the West Virginia Tobacco cessation hotline at 1-877-YNOTQUIT (1-877-966-8784). This is a toll free service to West Virginia residents who are interested in quitting smoking.
